M97 in narrowband
|
M97 is an emission nebula situated in the constellation of Ursa Major (commonly known at the Big Dipper).
M97 (also known as the Owl Nebula) was discovered in 1781 by Pierre Mechain . It is thought to be shaped like a cylinder seen obliquely.
This image was produced from three sets of exposures taken through narrowband filters. In this case the image taken through the SII filter is mapped to red, HAlpha to green, and OIII to blue.
