M27 (Dumbell Nebula)
|
The obligatory M27 astrophotograph. This is one of the first objects ever photographed with a scope and I keep coming back to it.
The 'spikes' at the top and bottom of the brighter stars are blooming spikes. These are caused when too much light is directed to the pixels imaging a star, which leaks into the pixels immediately above and below.
The color balance was done to try to represent the 'teal' color associated with the OIII (ionized oxygen). There is some dispute about the real color - many images use a blue/purple color. Ultimately I used this color because I liked it.
These are cosmetic and are easily removed.
